Broadway At The Eccles ~ A fun and enchanted evening on-stage that the luxurious Eccles Theater in downtown Salt Lake City for the upcoming 2017-18 Season.Growing up, I did not attend the thee-a-tah. Unless you count the occasional high school production.
Which I don’t.
It wasn’t until college that I began attending the theater at least once or twice a year. I’d like to say since then, this has always been the case. But some years, I’ve seen as many as a dozen performances, and other years, well sadly, none.
Now that I am full-fledged, card-carrying adult AND one in charge of a tiny human to boot, I strive to have the theater, and the arts in general, as part of our lives. When Cuisine Unlimited invited me down to Salt Lake City to attend The Broadway at the Eccles announcement for the 2017-18 season, I couldn’t turn it down. Great food, great building, fantastic shows, who could? The announcement was going to happen on live TV on KSL, the local NBC affiliate, but a cocktail hour would be held beforehand. I have attended many events catered by Cuisine Unlimited (like this one) so there was no doubt the little bites being served would be delicious.
After the announcement, desserts would be served. The desserts were created to match one ‘Broadway at the Eccles’ show coming to Salt Lake City.
I was taken behind the curtain in order to photograph the desserts right before the crowds devoured them and only moments before they would be announced on live TV.
Let me just say, I need to brush up on my Broadway. Some were easy to guess, and others, well, I had no clue. Let’s see how well you do.
I’m going to start easy. If you miss this one, there might not be any hope for you with the rest.
What’s your guess?
How about this one? Just walking in, I knew this production had to be coming because the music was playing over the loudspeakers.
Now I had no idea this one was a Broadway musical. I am familiar with the movie and LOVE it. This will definitely be one I take Elizabeth to see this holiday season.
When I saw these, I thought to myself, this one could be anything. How much music is on Broadway? With a little prodding I got there. So what’s your best guess for this one?
They’re cute and very tasty, but musical symbols could mean so many productions, right?
But then once you know, you just know.
Did you get it? After I guessed the correct musical it was a DAAAA moment.
These next two stumped me. I downright had never heard of one (this next one) and the last one took A LOT of prodding to get me there.
When I saw these cake bites, my first thought was something went horribly wrong in the cooking, decorating, travel, or plating process. They were all ‘broken’ or ‘smashed’. I learned it was intentional.
Alright, here’s the last one.
Think about the origins of the creme puff, and then let your mind wander from there….
Good luck.
So, how did you do? How many did you guess correctly? Feel free to rub it in if you got them all right. I can take it.
I think Cuisine Unlimited did a great and clever job with pairing their desserts to each coming show. You can read their article on the evening here.
I am utterly excited about the 2017-2018 Broadway At The Eccles season. I’m earnestly going try to take in each show. There are more things coming, so for the full season, check out the Eccles events page.
