Chocolate Raspberry Mocha Shots ~ Cold Brew Coffee, Chocolate Ice Cream, Raspberries, and grated Raspberry Chocolate for a decadent yet healthier treat. This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and ProYo, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #ProYoHighProteinIceCream http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV
Once upon a time I loved raspberry mochas. I’ve always loved chocolate and raspberries together but when coffee was introduced, my favorite duo became a trio. Then one day I found myself at 310 pounds and made the radical, yet life changing, no-regrets decision to have gastric bypass surgery. It’s been nearly a decade and I’ve maintained my weight loss within 30 pounds. For me, this is a win.
After my surgery, I knew I was saying goodbye to many foods forever. And if not forever, I knew I’d maybe have a bite here or there every blue moon. I’ve been fine with this decision and can tell you that 99% of the time, I doesn’t miss the foods I’ve had to give up.
But there’s that 1% of the time I do.
The surgery has left me intolerant to sugar in any significant quantity. Add high fat to that high sugar, and, well, I’m a goner. Ice cream was the first thing on the chopping block for me.
I miss raspberry mochas like crazy. Sure, I can go to a cafe, order a sugar free chocolate, skim milk, and just hope the raspberry syrup doesn’t do me in…but ew.
I’d much rather have ONE BITE of something real, then a bunch of bites of something fake. This is how I have lived my life for the last decade. It’s also partially why this blog is named The Complete Savorist…I can complete savor something in a small amount.
That one bite of ice cream a couple of times a year has kept me satiated. However, every now and again, I want all the bites. And all the bites would be bad.
When the opportunity arose to partner with ProYo High Protein Low Fat Ice Cream, I jumped at the chance. I looked over their products online and saw they were low in fat (around 1.5 grams), lower in sugar (about 9 grams), and high in protein (at 10 grams) per serving (1/2 cup).
This was incredibly exciting t0 me. My gastric bypass diet is low fat, low sugar, and high protein. Now there is an ice cream that actually fits this…sign me up. Off to Smith’s grocery store I went.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about ProYo High Protein Low Fat Ice Creams. When food disagrees with me, I pay dearly. So I started small. I knew 1-2 bites would be safe, so I took 3 bites.. The next day, I tried 5 bites. So far so good. No reactions.
My bites are relatively small, so in reality, I was up to maybe 2 bites for the general population. But still 5 of my bites was a previously unknown feat. I was thrilled.
Beyond the quantity, I was sincerely worried about the taste. I was fearing a gritty texture that I’ve had in healthier sweet treats with added protein. But it wasn’t; it was smooth and creamy. I also prepared for that fake sugar taste, one I am accustomed to in my morning coffee, but not a fan of in anything else. None, tasted perfectly naturally sweet.
All in all, ProYo High Protein Low Fat Ice Creams are AWESOME. I’ve tried Dutch chocolate, Vanilla Bean, and Mint Chocolate Chip. All three are wonderful. A serving is 1/2 cup and I can’t eat that much, so my servings tend to be about 1/4 a cup.
Once I knew I could enjoy ProYo High Protein Low Fat Ice Creams with no negative side effects, I went about recreating my favorite raspberry mocha with a summertime twist. Instead of a hot drink, I wanted a treat I could enjoy in the heat of summer, when entertaining with friends and family or just hanging out with my daughter. Voilà Chocolate Raspberry Mocha Shots were created.I also wanted to keep my portion of this deliciousness within an acceptable range for my dietary protocol. Serving Chocolate Raspberry Mocha Shots was the perfect way to keep my portion small, get that perfect mocha balance of coffee and chocolate, and then spruce it up with some fresh raspberries.
But that wasn’t enough, I needed to take it over the top. I purchased a premium raspberry dark chocolate bar and grated it over my glass.
My grandparents are visiting from California and got to be my taste testers. They LOVED this. I am so excited they loved my Chocolate Raspberry Mocha Shots as much as I do and I hope you do too.
